Bedok HDB flats with assisted-living services to be launched

The 250 apartments for assisted living form part of a total 1,234 units at the Chaichee Green Build To Order project. The project will provide flats with three, four and five rooms, “to promote intergenerational interaction and foster inclusivity”.

The waiting periods for the flats vary from three years to three years seven months.

In December, Singaporean senior citizens will be able to age independently by purchasing 250 community care apartment apartments in Bedok.

The community care apartments, which integrate senior-friendly living with on-site services and activities such as socialization, are the third project in its type. Two such projects have been launched in Bukit Barok in 2020 and Queensway by 2022.

If our model of providing care proves effective and scalable, then we will expand the supply and launch at least 30 community care flats in different parts of Singapore before 2030.

Residents of such flats can subscribe to basic services that include essentials such as emergency monitoring 24 hours a day and basic health checkups. Services such as daycare, laundromat and meal services can be added at an extra charge.

The Myst Singapore

Residents of the basic services package will also have access to wellness and social programs, care services, and a facilitated admission in a nearby facility if needed.

The total cost for the unit is the sum of the basic services package price and the flat price. While the upfront cost of the unit is required, the residents are given two options when it comes to the monthly payment for the service package. Either pay S$175 up to S$185 with a security deposit upfront for one year or pay S$6,300 up to S$7,000 over three years.

Each assisted-living flat is about 32 square metres, and will be equipped with senior-friendly fittings, such as grab bars, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms with slip-resistant flooring, and wide wheelchair-friendly main doors.

Flats with open layouts can be tailored and separated by sliding partitions. Cabinets and a finished, fully-equipped kitchen are included. Seniors can move in immediately with only minimal renovations.

For a community care apartment to be available, both the applicant and spouse must have 65 years or older. They can choose from a range of 15 years to 35 in five-year increments.

The exhibition, open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5, excluding weekends, public holidays, shows 3D model of an assisted-living unit and a flat unit. Also included are a mock-up communal area, and a flat showroom. Also, visitors can find out about service packages as well as eligibility requirements.

The seniors in the project will be able to easily access nearby communal and social amenities such as an eating place and a resident’s network centre.
